Touch ‘n Go Card Top-Ups No Longer Available At Sultan Abu Bakar CIQ & Exit Lanes Of All Toll Plazas
Motorists who’ve travelled on Malaysian roads before would probably be familiar with the Touch ‘n Go or smart cards.
From 29 Oct, Touch ‘n Go top-ups at the Johor Bahru (JB) Customs, Immigration, and Quarantine Complex (CIQ) will no longer be available.
This is following news that the service will stop at the exit lanes of all toll plazas across the country. So if you have plans to drive to Malaysia soon, listen up.
No more Touch ‘n Go top-ups at exit lanes
Much like our CashCard, motorists use Touch ‘n Go for electronic road payment at designated booths, which are basically manual versions of our ERP gantry.
Since transactions aren’t automatic, we can request for the toll operator to top our cards up on the spot, if we’re running low.
But this privilege seems to have ceased, according to a notice from PLUS, which manages the toll plazas. Facebook page Galeri Lori dan Bas shared this flyer which summarises the changes:
The notice explains that topping up at tolls wastes roughly 1 to 3 minutes per vehicle. Removing the amenity will improve the toll plazas in three ways:
- Reduces congestion
- Improves traffic flow
- Enhances safety
The measures currently apply only at the exit lanes of all toll plazas, though all reload points will be removed from Kompleks Sultan Abu Bakar Johor Bahru from Tuesday (29 Oct).
Alternative places to top up your card
In place of the top-up lanes, over 10,000 alternative top-up stations are now available across Malaysia, including at ATM machines, self-service kiosks and petrol stations along the highways.
Those heading to JB over the long weekend may also reload their cards at most Giant, Tesco, Guardian and Watsons outlets listed in Touch ‘n Go Malaysia’s Facebook post.
Going even further up the peninsula? Do note that all reload lanes will be out of operation from Thursday (24 Oct) to Tuesday (29 Oct) to facilitate traffic during the festive period.
Make sure you have enough value in your cards, or top them up at the locations shown in the map below:
Essentially, just ensure that your Touch ‘n Go cards have more than enough balance to last your entire journey, to avoid any confusion. Have a safe trip and enjoy the holidays!
