Woman strangles colleague for working slowly at Penang factory
A 42-year-old former factory worker in Malaysia strangled a colleague in July after becoming unhappy that she was using her phone and working too slowly.
On 20 Aug, Siti Fadzhlina Bazheer Ahamed was fined RM500 (around S$160) after pleading guilty to voluntarily causing hurt.

The incident took place at about 12.30pm on 26 July at the Abbott Medical Device factory in Bayan Lepas, Penang.

According to the facts presented in court, Siti Fadzhlina saw her 30-year-old colleague, Anis Fari Syuhaili Johari, using a mobile phone while working.
She believed this was slowing down work and causing goods to reach her later than expected.
Siti Fadzhlina then approached Ms Anis Fari and grabbed her by the neck, causing an injury.
Ms Anis Fari later lodged a police report, and Siti Fadzhlina was subsequently arrested.
Magistrate says defendant could have killed victim
Siti Fadzhlina was charged under Section 323 of Malaysia’s Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt and pleaded guilty to the offence.
The provision carries a maximum sentence of one year’s imprisonment, a fine of up to RM2,000 (around S$630), or both.
Before sentencing her, magistrate Chia Huey Ting asked whether Siti Fadzhlina understood that grabbing someone by the neck could have fatal consequences.

The magistrate warned that Ms Anis Fari could have died, which could have resulted in Siti Fadzhlina facing a murder charge.
She added that if Siti Fadzhlina felt her colleague was working too slowly, she should have reported the matter to a supervisor instead of taking action herself.
Defendant fined RM500, with 14 days’ jail if she fails to pay
After being admonished by the magistrate, Siti Fadzhlina apologised in court and said she regretted her actions.
She also told the court that she had been dismissed from her job because of the incident.
Her lawyer asked for a minimal fine, noting that Siti Fadzhlina is single and supports her mother.
The magistrate ultimately fined her RM500 and ordered her to serve 14 days in jail if she failed to pay the amount.
According to Harian Metro, Siti Fadzhlina paid the fine.
