A vehicle’s rear dashcam footage captured the overcast day, showing roads wet from rain.

Then, without warning, the Learjet shot into view in a vertical dive like a missile and slammed into the edge of the road.

Pilots reported turbulence and ice before emergency

Recordings of the Air Traffic Control (ATC) broadcasts involving the doomed plane quickly surfaced online.

A female pilot on N722BD reported an outside temperature of -47 ºC, which resulted in the formation of light, clear ice.

She also said the plane was encountering moderate turbulence, causing the aircraft to bounce in altitude by up to 700 feet (213m).

YouTube channel VASAviation showed weather radar indicating the plane flew into bad weather. After getting clearance, they climbed to around 35,400 feet (10,789m).

“Mayday, mayday, we’re descending 10,000 feet (3,048m) per minute.” The pilot hurriedly declared an emergency.

ATC barely had time to confirm the declaration of an emergency before the pilot made another harrowing transmission.

“Declaring an emergency, 722BD! We are in an overspeed condition. Descending 20,000 feet (6,096m) per minute! We’re going to crash into the ground, 722BD.” She practically screamed in alarm.

ATC radio picks up terrified reaction of private jet pilots as plane plunges

As ATC offered assistance, the pilot reported the plane plunging past 22,000 feet, banking to 60 degrees to one side.

In the background, her male co-pilot was faintly audible, reciting a prayer.

Over the course of just one minute, the plane had dropped 24,600 feet (7,498m).

In the final ATC transmission, the pilot was overheard frantically instructing her co-pilot to look outside. The transmission and all flight tracking data cut off just as she stated they had dropped below 10,000 feet (3,048m).

Shortly after, the plane crashed, leaving ATC desperately calling out for them to respond.

VASAviation, a pilot and flight instructor, called this the “most explicit and disturbing” recording he had ever heard.
