Police chase starts over driver using phone

According to Free Malaysia Today, the 41-year-old van driver was a food deliveryman whom police spotted using his phone while driving in Sri Petaling.

Police said the incident began at around 1.20pm, although several videos purportedly showing the ensuing chase were timestamped after 6.30pm, according to clips and witness accounts online.

Two patrol officers in a car ordered the driver to stop. Instead of complying, however, he suddenly made a U-turn and attempted to flee.

Videos circulating online showed the van hurtling down an expressway against the flow of traffic at around 6.36pm.

Carefully lining the van up with the toll booth, he even attempted to pay using his Touch ‘n Go card.

Unfortunately for him, the police car had stopped right behind, and an officer rushed out to apprehend him before he could complete the payment.
