PTE Quek Is Currently Housed In The ICU Where He Is Being Monitored
PTE Joshua Quek Shou Jie, a 21-year-old SAF serviceman suffered a spinal injury during a parachute training conducted in Taiwan.
According to Channel NewsAsia (CNA), the full-time serviceman was injured during a night exercise on Wednesday (18 Dec).
PTE Quek is in stable condition after surgery
PTE Quek was evacuated to the nearest tertiary hospital where he underwent surgery on Thursday (19 Dec) morning.
The 21-year-old’s condition is currently stable and described as “conscious and lucid“.
He remains in the ICU where he is being monitored while awaiting further treatment to stabilise his spine.
Parents flew in to Taiwan
An orthopaedic expert from Singapore has been flown in to provide additional medical care.
PTE Quek’s family is also in Taiwan and have spoken to the 21-year-old.
The SAF has suspended the training in Taiwan while investigations are ongoing.
