Teenagers reportedly drove car back to Sengkang carpark, nabbed by police

After allegedly stealing a car, six teenagers reportedly took their friends for a joyride.

The alleged theft took place in Block 457 Sengkang West Road, a multistorey carpark, reported Shin Min Daily News.

Couple discover car stolen after four hours

The car owner, 37-year-old events manager Huang Weilun (transliterated from Mandarin) said he returned home with his wife last Tuesday (29 Oct) at about 7.30pm.

They parked on the second floor of the carpark and went back to their flat.

At 11.30pm, he went back to his car to get his camera, which he had left inside, but found another car parked in his parking space.

Puzzled, he called his wife to confirm that they had parked there, then realised that their car had been stolen.

They occasionally leave their car unlocked with the key inside, Mr Huang said, as the alarm would sometimes be triggered when they tried to unlock it.

Police intercept car returning to Sengkang carpark, six teenagers alight

The couple immediately called the police and several officers arrived at the carpark to investigate.

As he was talking to them, Mr Huang recognised the sound of his car’s engine, indicating that it was entering the carpark.

While the car was driving up the ramp to the second floor, the driver appeared to notice the police and hesitated briefly, before driving towards them.

Two officers intercepted the car, telling its occupants to get out.

Mr Huang saw six teenagers, five boys and one girl, exit the car and sitting on the ground for police questioning.

Teenagers are from Punggol, allegedly took car from Sengkang

Later, the couple learnt that the teenagers lived in Punggol.

After allegedly stealing the car, they picked up friends from various locations and took them on joyrides.

However, Mr Huang was unsure why they chose to steal a car from Sengkang.

Camera worth S$2K was intact

Mr Huang’s wife shared that when asked to show their IDs, some of the teenagers presented student IDs.

She told Shin Min Daily News that she believes they were simply being mischievous and playful, with no malicious intent.

Mr Huang’s camera, worth S$2,000, as well as several items in the trunk were intact.

She was also grateful that they did not get into an accident or damage the car.

Vape & knuckleduster found in car

However, Mr Huang said some prohibited items were found in his car.

They included an e-vaporiser and knuckleduster, together with slippers and a mobile phone.

The police returned their car to them at about 4am, after it was checked for evidence, he added.

Six teenagers arrested include 13-year-old girl

The Singapore Police Force (SPF) said six teenagers aged 13 to 16, including a 13-year-old girl, had been arrested for alleged car theft.

An e-vaporiser and knuckleduster were found in the car, it added.

A 16-year-old boy was assisting with investigations into the carrying of an offensive weapon.

The e-vaporiser will be handed over to the Health Sciences Authority for handling.

The police has launched an investigation into the case.
