Man complains about migrant workers having roadside picnic along Geylang Road
A man sparked a heated online discussion after voicing his concerns about a group of migrant workers gathered along Geylang Road.
On Tuesday (3 Feb), the Original Poster (OP) took to the Complaint Singapore Facebook group with photos of migrant workers sitting along pavements and grass patches in the area.

The OP described the scene as “Little Jakarta”, mentioning that the roadside gathering was “typical” during the weekends.
Images posted included migrant workers congregating around a grass patch, while others were seated along pavements.

Netizens reaction to the post
The post sparked an online discussion, with netizens highlighting that migrant workers need their day off too.
Many stated that migrant workers deserve a place to rest and unwind on Sundays.
One netizen criticised the post, pointing out that there should not be an issue if authorities have permitted such gatherings to take place.

A third Facebook user expressed sympathy, noting that migrant workers may have very limited options when it comes to places where they can spend their rest days.

Authorities monitor gatherings in the area
The issue regarding large congregations of persons in the said vicinity is not new.
In Feb 2017, former Senior Minister of State, Ministry for Home Affairs (MHA) and Ministry for National Development (MND) Desmond Lee shared that police regularly patrol areas where foreign workers tend to congregate, engaging them on crime prevention and advising them to abide by the law.
Auxiliary Police Officers (APOs) are also deployed to conduct daily visibility patrols in areas such as Paya Lebar MRT station, Tanjong Katong Complex and City Plaza.
Mr Lee added: “The APOs take enforcement action against littering, urinating in public and smoking in prohibited places.”
