Singapore has seen a fair share of bizarre occurrences in recent times, including the case where a man was tasered outside Fullerton Hotel, and another where a pedestrian fell on the road by himself.

On Tuesday (29 Sep) afternoon, another shocking incident unfolded in Choa Chu Kang.

A man was reportedly seen slashing himself in an open air carpark before being restrained by onlookers. The man was eventually arrested and brought to a hospital.

Footage of the incident was shared widely on social media.

In a clip shared on Complaint Singapore Facebook group, a man in beige was holding an unspecified object, as he stood next to another man with a gardening tool in hand.

The clip was reportedly captured at a carpark near Block 409 along Choa Chu Kang Avenue 3.

Without warning, the man exclaimed “why!” before slashing his left arm in 2 swift motions.

A female noise was heard shrieking “NO!” as members of the public gather to restrain the man.

In another clip shared on the Facebook group, a woman with blood on her face was seen seeking help at a nearby HDB.

It’s unclear how the events in both videos are linked.

23-year-old man arrested & brought to hospital

Responding to Channel NewsAsia (CNA) queries, the police later shared that a 23-year-old man was nabbed for “voluntarily causing hurt” using a dangerous weapon.

The man was reportedly brought to Ng Teng Fong Hospital.

A 27-year-old woman was also taken to the National University Hospital.

CNA reported that an off-duty police officer was in the vicinity at the time of the incident, and helped to defuse the situation.

Police investigations are currently ongoing.

Hope they receive the help they need

Kudos to the members of the public who helped to restrain the man, preventing any further harm.

It’s rather distressing to see someone harm themselves, especially with such force.
