Police arrested a 15-year-old girl in Saitama, Japan, on suspicion of abandoning a corpse.

A preliminary examination revealed no obvious external injuries. Authorities ordered a forensic autopsy to determine the infant’s exact cause of death and whether the baby was born alive.

She said she could not keep baby hidden from her family

During police interrogation, the 15-year-old suspect reportedly confessed to the charges.

She told investigators that she had given birth to the baby alone at home.

Regarding her motive for the burial, she said she felt she could not keep the baby hidden in her room forever, so she decided to bury him in the yard.

The family members living in the same household claimed they were entirely unaware of the girl’s pregnancy.

Experts blame isolated births for such incidents

Sociologists and child welfare experts have expressed grave concern over the case, noting that such incidents are often the result of isolated births.

In these scenarios, fear, shame, or a perceived lack of resources drive individuals to take desperate and extreme measures.

Experts are urging the government and medical institutions to develop further and implement “Confidential Birth” or “Anonymous Delivery” systems.

These programs allow women in distress to give birth safely and receive professional counselling, aiming to prevent such tragedies at the source.
