S’porean Man Directs Girls To Handicap Toilet, Then Tries To Unlock Door With 20 Cent Coin

Man Tries To Unlock Clark Quay Handicap Toilet Using A 20-Cent Coin

Nobody likes having their privacy undermined, especially when they are settling their ‘business’ in the toilet.

Yet that was what nearly happened to a Singaporean named Belle. While relieving herself at a handicap toilet in Clarke Quay, a man allegedly tried to unlock the door using a 20-cent coin.

She took to Instagram on Thursday (25 Jul) to detail the events that night. You can read her post in full here, we also summarise it below.

The man allegedly told them to use the handicap toilet

According to the Instagram post, Belle and her friend, Jane were heading to the washroom when they were approached by a man, who told them,

Hey, use the handicap toilet. The girls toilet is full.

Belle did not find anything amiss initially as she assumed that his girlfriend must have taken a long time in the female toilet, and simply did not want to inconvenience the pair.

However, as they proceeded to the handicap toilet, they found the man from before tailing them.

Sensing that something was wrong, Belle claims she did a thorough check of the toilet but didn’t find anything that would suggest it was bugged.

Naturally, they went on with their ‘business’.

The man allegedly used 20-cent coin to open the toilet door

While we can’t ascertain the clear sequence of events via the post, the pair seems to have entered the toilet together and deployed the ‘watch-the-door-while-I-pee’ tactic.

As Belle was relieving herself, she allegedly found the door left ajar and told Jane to “lock it properly”.

But when it was her friend’s turn, Belle claims that she saw the lock “turning by itself” as she was washing her hands.

She immediately pulled the door shut, but it was then yanked open from the outside. That’s when Belle recognised the same man from before, pulling on the door.

The man bolted once he was discovered, but Belle gave chase, grabbed his belongings, and called the police.

Bouncers and other staff from a nearby nightclub also helped to pin the man down prior to the cops’ arrival.

Later, Belle learned that the man had allegedly tried to open the door using a 20-cent coin.

The design of the door wasn’t clearly stated, but it’s likely that it looked like this:

The coin would fit nicely into the middle opening

Doors of this design can be opened by turning the slit using a coin or other thin objects.

Be wary of your surroundings even when you’re relieving yourself

We are glad that the man was nabbed and hope he will be brought to justice soon for his actions.

Let this be a lesson to all of us to be wary of our surroundings, even in the privacy of your own toilet cubicle.
