Man repeatedly tries to unlock digital lock on gate of Yishun flat, leaves after resident comes to check
In the wee hours of the morning, an Yishun resident was awoken by a man trying to unlock the gate of his flat.
The 57-year-old clerk named only as Mr Fang (transliterated from Mandarin) told Shin Min Daily News that this happened at 4am on Wednesday (23 Oct).
The suspicious man stayed outside his door for about five minutes, he said.

Man tried to unlock gate of Yishun flat three times
In surveillance footage the resident shared with Shin Min, the Chinese man aged about 30 years old was wearing a black T-shirt and black arm sleeve.
He was also carrying a backpack, and bent down to enter the password to the digital lock on the gate about three times.
Mr Fang, who lives on the seventh floor of Block 259 Yishun Ring Road, said he has lived there for 10 years but had never seen the man before.

There are also no valuable items placed outside his unit, only some potted plants.
Resident reports incident to the police
After an app connected to the lock triggered an alarm on his phone, Mr Fang woke up and saw the man outside his door via CCTV.
When the man heard him opening the door, he left the scene quickly.
The resident then reported the incident to the police.
The Singapore Police Force confirmed that a report had been made and the case was under investigation.
Resident worried about mother’s safety
Mr Fang said he is now worried about the safety of his 85-year-old mother, especially when she’s alone at home.
He usually locks both the gate and the wooden door at night, so even if the gate becomes unlocked, the door would still be locked.
However, when his mother is at home the door is usually unlocked, he added.
He changed the lock on his gate to a digital one four months ago so it would be easier for his mother to enter and exit the flat.
Similar incident took place in Sengkang
This isn’t the first such incident this month.
On 15 Oct, a strange man tried to open the door of a flat in Rivervale Shores, a project in Sengkang East.
When the resident opened the door, he said that he had gone to the wrong unit and left quickly. She called the police.
When confronted by the resident, he also reportedly said he went to the wrong unit.
