Ng Kok Song Said To Resemble Ah Huat Coffee Mascot

This year’s presidential race has officially begun, with three presidential candidates vying for Singaporeans’ votes.

One of the hopefuls, former GIC investment chief Ng Kok Song, is known for always being generous with his joyful grin on and off camera.

While the elections are undoubtedly a serious matter, some have taken a lighthearted approach to current affairs.

Keen-eyed observers online have noticed that Mr Ng resembles the Ah Huat Coffee mascot.

Indeed, it’s not difficult to see the similarities between the two — from their toothy smiles to their white hair.

Side-by-side comparisons of Mr Ng and the cartoon mascot of Ah Huat Coffee have been circulating on social media since as early as 20 Aug.

When put together side-by-side, the two do seem to share some similar physical traits.

For instance, their white hair, gleaming pearly whites, and the way their eyes both ‘disappear’ when they’re smiling.

Those who are more detail-oriented may even point out the similar wrinkles on both men’s foreheads.

The Facebook post has since garnered over 370 shares at the time of writing, with many expressing their amusement at the sight.

One commenter noted it’s no wonder she thought Mr Ng looked “familiar” and called the comparison “cute”.

Meanwhile, some agreed that they both looked like “long lost” brothers or even twins.

Not everyone was convinced, though.

One commenter pointed out that apart from the hair and the nose, the other features are “totally off”.

Ng Kok Song in the running to be Singapore’s 9th president

Yesterday (22 Aug), Mr Ng was one of the three individuals to have been successfully nominated for this year’s presidential election.

The 75-year-old then delivered a two-minute speech at the People’s Association (PA) headquarters.

He pledged to support Singapore’s three national treasures which he listed as the reserves, good public administration, and social stability.

Additionally, Mr Ng reiterated that he does not belong to any political party and is thus, “well-placed” to unite Singaporeans to face an uncertain future.

Mr Ng, Tharman Shanmugaratnam, and Tan Kin Lian will have until 30 Aug to campaign for votes.
