Thai landlady shocked after tenant abandons rental room filled with rubbish & used sanitary pads
A 58-year-old landlady in Thailand was left shocked after discovering that her rental room had been abandoned in a filthy state, filled with piles of rubbish, including used sanitary pads, scattered across the floor.
The incident surfaced on 16 Dec after the landlady, Ms Chuchit, shared a video of the room on Facebook as a warning to other property owners.
Tenant rented room for about a year
According to Ms Chuchit, the room had been rented for about a year by a 48-year-old woman described as a “tom”, a Thai term commonly used for women who present in a masculine manner.
She said the tenant appeared well-groomed and well-dressed, and there had been no major issues throughout the tenancy. However, the tenant had a recurring habit of paying rent late each month.
Shortly before the incident, Ms Chuchit reminded the tenant not to delay the upcoming rent payment. Soon after, she noticed that the room had been closed for several days, with no one seen entering or leaving.
When the rent remained unpaid for more than a week, she decided to check on the unit.
Landlord horrified by condition inside
After receiving no response at the door, Ms Chuchit used a spare key to enter the room, only to be met with what she described as a horrifying scene.
The rental unit had effectively been turned into a dumping ground, with piles of clothes, plastic bottles, food waste, and garbage bags strewn across the floor.

Cardboard boxes and plastic bags filled with trash littered the unit, leaving only a narrow pathway for movement. Rubbish had also accumulated on the bed.

A strong, foul stench filled the space. Most distressing, she said, were used sanitary pads discarded openly around the room, including near the toilet area.

The restroom was not spared. The squatting toilet was left heavily stained, and the area was described as being in an unhygienic and neglected state.

Ms Chuchit said she nearly fainted upon seeing the condition of the room, adding that she never imagined she would experience something she had previously only seen in news reports.
Warning issued to other landlords
Ms Chuchit said she has been unable to contact the tenant since the discovery.
By sharing the incident online, she hopes to warn other landlords to conduct regular inspections rather than leaving rental units unchecked for years.
She also urged tenants to be considerate of property owners and to avoid leaving rooms in such unsanitary conditions.
