Fine weather in 1st week of Dec due to drier conditions: MSS
Singapore will have a break from the recent wet weather in the first week of December, with fine weather expected.
This was revealed by the Meteorological Service Singapore (MSS) in a weather advisory released on Monday (2 Dec).
‘A few fine weather days’ in 1st week of Dec
Singaporeans can look forward to “a few fine weather days” this week, thanks to drier conditions, MSS said.
However, next week may bring more rainfall, with moderate to heavy thundery showers expected over parts of the island.
These will occur on most afternoons, MSS added.
On a few of these days, the showers may extend into the night.
Northeast Monsoon conditions expected to continue
The varied weather comes as the prevailing Northeast Monsoon conditions are expected to continue in the first half of December.
That means the winds will blow mainly from the northeast or northwest.
The Northeast Monsoon season typically lasts till March, according to MSS.
The total rainfall for the period should be “near average” over most parts of the island.
Temperature to range from 32-34°C on most days
Accordingly, the daily maximum temperatures will be slightly warmer than the previous fortnight, ranging from 32°C to 34°C on most days.
On a few days, they may even exceed 34°C.
Well above average rainfall in 2nd half of Nov
In the second half of November, moderate to heavy thundery showers occurred mostly in the afternoon on most days.
On a few days, they extended into the evening.
The wet weather was caused by a monsoon rain band over the equatorial Southeast Asia region.
Thus, Singapore recorded “well above average” rainfall, with the areas around Admiralty and Pasir Ris being the wettest — they recorded about 185% above-average rainfall.
In particular, widespread heavy thundery showers fell in the afternoon of 22 Nov over many parts of the island.
A daily total rainfall of 137.2mm was recorded in Woodlands that day. This was the highest rainfall recorded for the period.
Clementi recorded highest temperature of 34.8°C
As for the daily maximum temperatures, they were between 31°C and 34°C on most days.
Clementi recorded the highest daily maximum temperature of the fortnight, with the mercury recording 34.8°C on 22 Nov.
