Man angry after being offered S$0.90 refund for cigarette butt found in curry puff
Recently, a man in Malaysia was horrified after finding a cigarette butt inside a curry puff he purchased from a street vendor.
According to China Press, he had already eaten half of the snack before making the unpleasant discovery.
When he confronted the vendor about the hygiene issue, he was reportedly offered only 3 ringgit (S$0.90) as a refund.
Customer slams vendor for poor hygiene standards
Outraged by the vendor’s response, the customer spoke to China Press, questioning the stall’s hygiene practices and asking how a cigarette butt could end up in the filling.
He expressed serious concerns over the lack of sanitation, quality control, and responsibility, especially as such incidents could pose health risks to customers.
The man also felt the refund offered by the vendor was insufficient, suggesting that the seller downplayed the seriousness of the matter.
He pointed out the potential risks for other customers if the entire batch of curry puffs was affected.
“If a customer were to fall sick after eating curry puffs, who should take responsibility?” he asked.
Calls for penalties for poor hygiene practices
The man added that vendors who neglect basic food hygiene should face stricter penalties.
Online, many netizens echoed his frustration, calling for better accountability.
One commenter criticised the vendor for continuing to sell curry puffs despite the incident, describing it as unacceptable.

However, some commenters felt the customer might have been too harsh, arguing that the contamination could have occurred if the ingredients came from a wholesaler.
