Two men have been arrested by the Indonesian police after the body of an 80-year-old Singaporean man was found in dramatic circumstances.

But on 20 Feb, locals alerted the police to a body found in “bad condition” in the Citanduy River near Cilacap, a coastal area in central Java.

The river is a drive of roughly 285km from the capital Jakarta, where Mr Syed lived.

The body was brought to a hospital for an autopsy, which revealed that the victim was killed by a strike to the neck with a metre-long bamboo stick, Dr Budi said.

He was identified as Mr Syed after local police contacted the Greater Jakarta Metropolitan Regional Police.

According to Dr Budi, the alleged murder took place in the Sukabumi region of West Java, around 100km away from Mr Syed’s home.

Mr Syed was killed in a rented house at around 7.30pm local time on 16 Feb.

Afterwards, the perpetrators wrapped his body in plastic and sheets and encased him in cement, before throwing him into the river.

Singaporean purportedly killed due to love triangle

Dr Budi also said that the alleged murder likely stemmed from a love triangle between Mr Syed, a woman named Lina, and the woman’s boyfriend and alleged mastermind, identified only as “A”.

A was purportedly jealous because Lina had an affair with the victim.

Thus, he contacted two other men identified as “H” and “K” to allegedly plan and commit the alleged murder.

H was allegedly the one who struck Mr Syed in his neck, while K covered his mouth to stop him from screaming.

After an investigation, which involved questioning witnesses and gathering evidence, the alleged perpetrators were identified.

Police then arrested H and K, both 35-year-old labourers, on 25 March.

A is still at large, Dr Budi said.
