Elderly woman found dead in Tampines flat after neighbour noticed uncollected food outside unit

Elderly woman found dead at home in Tampines

On Wednesday evening (23 Oct), an elderly woman in her 70s was found dead at home in Tampines.

According to a report by Shin Min Daily News, the woman lived alone in a 3-room flat at Block 108 Tampines Street 11.

Her neighbours had alerted the police after they noticed that her food delivery had been left hanging at her door for two days.

Woman was likely dead for days

Neighbours noted that the woman had not exhibited any sign of discomfort when she was last seen on Sunday (20 Oct).

According to a resident, another neighbour of theirs usually brings food to the elderly woman.

They would hang the food outside the woman’s home for her to collect. However, the food was left uncollected on Monday and Tuesday this week.

The resident thought it was strange that the elderly woman did not pick up her food, but did not check in with her.

It was only on Wednesday when they noticed a strong odour coming from inside the woman’s unit did they alert the authorities.

Police arriving on scene subsequently found the woman dead in her home.

The woman had likely already been dead for days, reported Shin Min Daily News. Photos taken at the scene show officers carrying out a body covered in black tarp.

MS News understands that the woman died from natural causes.

Elderly woman led a life of solitude

Residents of the block said the woman had a relatively solitary lifestyle.

The elderly lady was in her 70s, and she never had any relatives visit during holidays.

Nonetheless, her neighbours described her as kind and considerate.

“We were on friendly terms with each other. It is very sad that she has left us so suddenly,” one neighbour said.
