Woman in Malaysia called mother after container toppled on her car

On Wednesday (13 Nov), a young woman in Malaysia died when a container flattened her car after it toppled off a trailer during a sharp turn.

During her wake the next day, 21-year-old Lee Zi Rou’s mother told local media that her daughter had called her moments before her death.

“She cried out: ‘Mummy, it hurts.’ That was the last thing she said to me,” said Lim Xiao Ling through sobs.

The lorry driver was arrested after the accident, with reports claiming the container was allegedly unsecured.

Daughter already dead when mother arrived

Ms Lim had always told her children to contact her through WhatsApp texts, as she tends to associate calls with bad incidents.

So when she saw the incoming call from her daughter on Wednesday morning, dread immediately settled in her.

Upon answering the call, she was met with her daughter’s cries of pain, saying: “Mummy, it hurts so much.”

Ms Lim tried asking her what happened and where she was, but her daughter had gone silent.

She started looking for Ms Lee along the route she takes to work while frantically calling her, only to have a stranger answer the phone and inform her an accident had happened.

By the time Ms Lim arrived at the crash site, her daughter was already dead.

She begged for people to help her move Ms Lee out, but the container was too heavy, and no one was able to help.

“I felt like I was going to suffocate on the spot,” said the devastated mother.

Family seeking justice

According to China Press, it is believed that the container might have been unsecured, causing it to detach during the turn.

The lorry driver’s company had allegedly said it “will handle it when the time is right” when responding to media queries.

Seeking justice, Ms Lee’s family called for the driver and his company to be punished.

The lorry driver, who was arrested after the accident, had also raised a ‘V’ sign towards the press, greatly aggravating the family members.

Screenings for alcohol and drugs have both come back negative.
