Ambulance carrying mother and infant crashes into another vehicle after running red light
A two-month-old infant in the United States (US) has died after an ambulance crash involving a driver who was allegedly under the influence.
According to Local-12 reports, the driver was also the baby’s grandfather, and police are expected to press charges.
Ambulance crashes after running red light
The incident began when the baby’s 33-year-old mother made an emergency call after finding her infant unresponsive.
However, before first responders arrived, she boarded a private ambulance with her child.

At around 5.15am, while en route to the hospital, the ambulance ran a red light and collided with another vehicle.
Security footage showed that the ambulance did not have its sirens or emergency lights activated at the time.
The impact caused the ambulance to hit a pole and flip onto its side, while the other vehicle crashed into a nearby building.
The force of the crash threw both the mother and infant through the windscreen.

The other driver, a 25-year-old man, reportedly declined medical treatment at the scene.
Driver allegedly speeding and intoxicated
Investigators said the ambulance driver was speeding and allegedly under the influence.
Both the mother and infant were rushed to the hospital after the crash.
The infant later succumbed to her injuries, while the mother remains in critical condition.

Medical examiners have yet to conclude the exact cause of death for the infant.
Authorities are continuing investigations, with charges expected to be filed against the driver.
