Merdeka Generation Singaporeans To Receive Their Benefits Starting This Month

Disclaimer: The $100 PAssion Silver Card top-up was announced in Jul 2019. If you have already claimed this last year, you won’t be able to claim it again in 2020.

If your parents, uncles or aunties are born between 1950-1959, here’s some good news to share with them — their Merdeka Generation Package is here.

According to The Straits Times, residents from the Merdeka Generation can expect to receive their 1st share of promised benefits starting Monday (1 Jul).

Cheers for our Singaporean baby boomers.

In case you can’t view it, here is what it reads:

If you know anyone born between 1950-1959, you can ask them to go SMRT to top up $100 EZLink for Merdeka Generation effective today.

How to top up the $100?
1. Go to a Add Value Machine at the mrt station.
2. Place your PAssion Silver Card Senior Citizen card on the card reader.
3. Tap on the word “Merdeka” on the screen.
4. Press Redeem All.
5. Wait 15 secs.
6. Top up completed. You may tap on the word ‘receipt’ if you want it. 😊

Before you rush out to top-up, here’s something you need to know.

If this is your 1st time topping up or if you’re doing it for someone, you may not see the “Merdeka” button show up at this ticketing machine.

And that’s because you’re at the wrong machine.

You need to look for Add Value Machines – the purple ones – at selected MRT stations & locations.

Here’s the one you should be looking out for.

Merdeka Generation Package introduced in NDR 2018

PM Lee Hsien Loong announced the package to help fellow Singaporeans in their 60s with healthcare expenses at last year’s National Day Rally (NDR).

FYI, Merdeka means “freedom” in Malay.

Benefits will include:

  • Outpatient subsidies
  • Medisave top-ups
  • MediShield Life premium subsidies
  • Payouts for long-term care.

Keep a look out for notifications on your top-up arrivals. We hope you’ll be able to spend them wisely.
