Metro’s Flagship Store At The Centrepoint To Close On 15 Sep
Many familiar stores are slowly disappearing from The Centrepoint.
Fresh off news of Times Bookstore’s decision to move out of The Centrepoint, Metro Centrepoint has announced their decision to do the same.
With no anchor tenants at the moment, the mall will soon only be left with a handful of retail stores.
Not the first store to depart from The Centrepoint
According to a report on The Straits Times, at least 8 other units seemed to be vacant on 24 Aug, while retail shops like Times Bookstores and TianPo Jewellery were having their moving out sales.
Straits Times also reported that at least 4 other tenants – which include Crystal Jade and The Better Toy Store – had withdrawn from the mall in the past 3 months.
Times are changing
Retailers have speculated that Metro decided to end its lease with the mall due to low traffic.
Experts explain that low traffic could be due to the merchandise available there no longer being in tune with preferences of the younger generation.
Because of this, nearby malls such as Paragon, 313@Somerset, and Orchard Central successfully siphoned younger customers away from The Centrepoint.
Only 2 Metro outlets left in Singapore
After Metro Centrepoint officially closes down on 15 Sep, there will be only 2 Metro outlets left in Singapore — at Paragon and Causeway Point.

Here’s how to get there.

Let’s hope that The Centrepoint will see better days
Back in 2014, Metro replaced Robinsons as The Centrepoint’s anchor tenant. Now, a mere 5 years later, Metro is following in Robinsons’ footsteps.
Let’s hope that The Centrepoint finds a way to reverse this trend and become the centre point of Orchard Road again.
