‘Culture shock’: S’pore woman says Korean friends taken aback when she said she ‘gotta go pee’

Singaporean gets culture shock after telling Korean friends she “gotta go pee”

Sometimes, travelling overseas can broaden horizons and invite new worldviews into your life – even if they appear to be trivial.

In a video posted on TikTok on 2 Aug, a Singaporean shared that the biggest culture shock she faced when she was living in South Korea was when she told her friends she “gotta go pee”.

This did not seem like a big deal to the OP, but her friends were horrified.

They asked, “Do Singaporeans say they gotta pee and stuff like that?”

The OP said she then told them that most Singaporeans tell their friends if they need to use the bathroom.

Netizens equally culture-shocked

Netizens were surprised that a small offhand comment can stir a great reaction from Koreans.

Many were also curious as to why it is a “taboo” subject in Korean culture.

Some non-Singaporean netizens shared that they would also announce going to the toilet, sometimes in an even more vulgar manner.

One netizen even said they have discussed their poop with their colleagues.
