Speaking to Shin Min Daily News, Mr Qiu (surname transliterated) said the incident happened last Friday evening (29 Aug) along the Alexandra Park Connector.

While walking his dog, he allegedly saw the 81-year-old man’s poodle relieve itself on the grass. However, the owner made no move to clean up.

Hence, he approached to advise him, but the elderly man retorted: “I don’t see it.”

“The elderly man claimed he didn’t see it and even taunted me, saying I should clean it up if I saw it,” Mr Qiu recalled.

Video footage Mr Qiu shared with Shin Min shows the elderly man riding a bicycle while walking his dog. The poodle can be seen defecating, but the owner ignores it.

Mr Qiu claimed that when he confronted the man, the latter got aggressive.

“The man was very rude, asking me to clean up for him, and then rode his bicycle into me,” Mr Qiu alleged, adding that his ankle later developed bruises.

He noted that the elderly man did not carry plastic bags with him, suggesting he had no intention of cleaning up after his dog.

According to Mr Qiu, he sees the same man around four times a week while out walking his own dog.

Another video shared by Mr Qiu shows the elderly man insisting he was being bullied, hurling vulgarities at Mr Qiu as tensions rose.

Since the police had already been contacted, Mr Qiu held onto the bicycle to prevent the man from leaving.

Elderly man allegedly removes NEA sign

It is understood that several signs have been put up around the park connector area, reminding dog owners to promptly clean up after their pets and dispose of the waste in trash bins.

The sign also states that offenders may be fined up to S$1,000 if they fail to do so.

Mr Qiu showed the Shin Min one of the signs at Dawson Road, saying that it had been pulled out by the elderly man and thrown at the scene.

He also shared a dog lovers’ group chat where many people claimed they had seen the elderly man walking his dog in the park more than once. Some were shocked by the way he walked his dog.

“His dog leash is very short; it feels like he’s dragging the dog along,” one member shared.
