Yishun Has A Community Fridge For Residents In Need
Yishun might – rather unfairly – have a reputation as a place where weird things happen, but there are definitely signs of humanity in the Chong Pang area.
For example, a non-profit organisation – Free Food For All – has teamed up with Chong Pang Community Club to set up a community fridge which they hope will help the community in various ways.
The fridge, which is being supported by Darul Makmur Mosque, was officially launched on Saturday (11 Jan), with Minister for Home Affairs & for Law K Shanmugam as guest-of-honour.
Yishun community fridge to feed the needy & reduce waste
The community fridge, located near Darul Makmur Mosque at Blk 162 Yishun Street 11, will hopefully reduce food expenses of the needy and reduce waste at the same time.
And the fridge is for all, so anyone can give and take food.
Of course, this being a community fridge, there are certain guidelines to follow.
For example, people can’t just walk in and place their items in the fridge.
Those who wish to donate food items must first contact the organisers, Free Food For All, and Chong Pang CC.
Take only what you need
As Singaporeans, we can always do more to help the needy, no matter their race or religion.
To see residents and volunteers from different backgrounds coming together to help the community is certainly a heartwarming thing.
We hope that the community fridge will not only be used responsibly but also frequently stocked, so everyone can benefit from it.
