Both suspended Boat Quay restaurants are under Hand in Hand Food
Two restaurants next to each other along Boat Quay have been suspended for offences including failing to keep their premises free of infestation.
This was announced by the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) in separate food hygiene notices that were released on Tuesday (19 Nov).
Both Boat Quay restaurants suspended for 2 weeks
The restaurants are located at 68 and 69 Boat Quay, according to SFA.
Both serve northern Chinese food, with one specialising in Beijing Roast Duck and the other, Shandong cuisine.
They will both be suspended for the same period of two weeks: from 19 Nov to 2 Dec.
They were also fined S$800 each.
Both suspended Boat Quay restaurants accumulated 12 demerit points in one year
Beijing Roast Duck House, at 68 Boat Quay, accumulated 12 demerit points in one year for two offences.
The first was failing to keep its licensed premises free of infestation — a penalty of six demerits.
The other was failing to register an assistant, also a penalty of six demerits.
Shandong Restaurant, at 69 Boat Quay, also accumulated 12 demerit points in one year.
They were imposed for exactly the same offences as its neighbour: failing to keep its licensed premises free of infestation and failing to register an assistant.
SFA said a licensee that accumulates 12 or more demerit points over 12 months may have its licence suspended for either two or four weeks, or cancelled, based on track records.

Both restaurants are under Hand In Hand Food, according to the company’s Facebook account.
Signages seen at both units include the “Hand In Hand” logo.
Hand In Hand also has another Beijing restaurant, which is located in Jalan Besar.
Licensed premises should be properly maintained, including toilets: SFA
Before they can resume work, all food handlers working on the suspended premises will be required to reattend and pass the Workforce Skills Qualifications (WSQ) Food Safety Course Level 1.
The licensees must also ensure that all food hygiene officers, if any, resume working on the premises in this role only if they reattend and pass the WSQ Food Safety Course Level 3.
SFA reminded food business operators to observe good food and personal hygiene practices at all times as it takes a serious view of these offences.
They should engage only registered food handlers and ensure licensed premises are properly upkept and maintained — this includes the toilets within, SFA said, adding,
SFA will not hesitate to take firm action against anyone found to be in violation of the Environmental Public Health Act.
The agency also advised members of the public who come across poor food safety practices in food establishments not to patronise them and report the details via SFA’s online feedback form or call the SFA Contact Centre at 68052871.
