Modified PMD crashes after speeding down Alexandra Road
A video of a modified Personal Mobility Device (PMD) speeding down Alexandra Road has gone viral after it was shared on SG Road Vigilante’s Facebook page on Sunday (1 Dec).
The footage shows the rider losing control and crashing into a traffic island while attempting an illegal turn.
The incident sparked outrage among netizens, with many calling for stricter regulations on PMD use.

PMD recorded travelling at 60km/h before crash
The dashcam footage begins with the PMD rider moving swiftly down Alexandra Road using the bus lane.
The PMD, which appeared to be modified, emitted blue and purple lights but lacked visible headlights.
According to the video’s caption, the car recording the incident was traveling at 60km/h, and the PMD kept pace throughout.
This suggests the rider was also traveling at that speed, which was illegal. Under the Land Transport Authority (LTA) regulations, PMDs are restricted to a maximum speed of 25km/h.
In the video, the rider could be seen wobbling visibly as they manoeuvred the device.

Approaching a road junction, the rider sped up and abruptly swerved from the bus lane to make a right turn onto Commonwealth Avenue, cutting across three lanes.
During the sharp turn, the rider lost control, causing the PMD to skid and crash into a traffic island.
Netizens call for tougher authorities regulation
The driver who shared the video warned fellow road users about the dangers of illegally modified PMDs.
They highlighted the potential for injuries, noting that pedestrians could have been hurt had they been on the traffic island during the crash.
Netizens echoed these concerns, criticising the rider for their reckless behaviour and lack of understanding of road safety.

Some pointed out that PMDs are not designed for such high speeds, which increases the risk of skidding.
The additional weight carried by the rider appeared to further destabilise the device.

Many commenters called for stricter regulations and enforcement on the use of PMDs, citing the rising number of accidents involving these devices and bicycles.
