In response to queries fromĀ MS News, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it received a call for assistance at about 5.40pm on Thursday (5 Dec).

The location was 3 Seraya Avenue — the address of Pulau Seraya Power Station.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by an SCDF paramedic.

Deceased was 58-year-old Thai worker

The deceased was a 58-year-old Thai construction worker, said spokespersons from the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) and Building and Construction Authority (BCA) in a joint statement.

His employer, and the occupier of the worksite, is Aik Sun Demolition and Engineering Pte Ltd.

The block that fell on him was part of a concrete structure he was demolishing.

MOM & BCA investigating for possible offences

The agencies are investigating the incident for possible offences under the Workplace Safety and Health Act and the Building Control Act.

MOM has also issued a stop-work order for the site.

BCA, on its part, has revoked the permit issued to the builder. It has also instructed the qualified person to submit a detailed investigation report of the incident, the statement said, adding:

As a general safety measure, the demolition of structures must be properly planned and done systematically. This includes establishing a plan with a detailed sequence and demolishing from top-down to eliminate any premature and unintended collapse of structures.
