12-year-old boy loses multiple organs after surgery, family left in despair
A 12-year-old boy in Shandong, China, is unable to eat normally for life after undergoing surgery which removed six organs.
Boy injured his abdomen while playing at school
According to Chinese media Red Star via HK01, on 26 October 2023, Xiaoye (name transliterated), who was 10 at that time, injured his abdomen while playing with classmates.
When he continued to experience abdominal pain after school, his mother, Mrs Yue (name transliterated), immediately took him to the local hospital for examination.
The initial diagnosis suggested abdominal blood clots, and the doctor recommended hospitalisation for observation.
However, after a CT scan, it was discovered that Xiao Ye had a “space-occupying lesion” between his stomach and pancreas, requiring immediate laparoscopic surgery.
Mrs Yue anxiously waited outside the operating room while the 14-hour surgery took place.
6 organs were removed from him
During the procedure, the medical team repeatedly asked the family to sign consent forms.
The medical team allegedly claimed that the boy had severe bleeding and required emergency abdominal surgery.
They later told the family that the pancreas had grown a tumour, which led to the decision to remove the pancreas and duodenum.
The hospital also refused the family’s request to transfer Xiaoye to another facility.

After the surgery, the news that her son had lost six organs devastated Mrs Yue.
These include the duodenum, pancreas, most of the stomach, and small intestine, effectively leaving him with no functioning digestive system.
Family facing financial & emotional crisis over boy’s health
Xiaoye can no longer eat or drink normally and now relies on intravenous nutrition for survival.
Mrs Yue expressed her heartache: “He no longer speaks and spends his days in the hospital, just surviving.”
Unable to bear seeing her son’s suffering, she has spent the past two years taking Xiaoye to Nanjing, Hangzhou, and other cities for medical consultations.

Doctors recommended multiple organ transplants.
However, difficulties in matching organs and the enormous cost of treatment mean the family faces a dire financial and emotional crisis.
Hospital offered S$36,600 in compensation
In late 2024, a third-party judicial appraisal confirmed that the hospital’s medical errors had caused Xiaoye’s suffering.
The appraisal also established a causal link between the hospital’s actions and his injuries.
In September 2025, the Chengwu County Health Bureau acknowledged three issues:
- The medical record not being completed within 24 hours,
- The non-compliant consent forms.
- The insufficient pre-surgery consultations.
The case is now under administrative investigation.
In July, the hospital offered a compensation of RMB200,000 (approximately S$36,600).
However, the amount was still far from covering the ongoing medical expenses.
Mrs Yue expressed her hope of being able to view the surgical footage and surveillance to understand the full truth.
On 29 October, Red Star News contacted Chengwu County People’s Hospital.
The hospital stated that it would respond after verifying the journalist’s identity, but has yet to do so.
