BreadTalk To Charge $0.10 For Plastic Bags At 5 Outlets Starting 15 Nov

BreadTalk Will Charge For Plastic Bags Starting 15 Nov

Yesterday (4 Nov), FairPrice announced that they will be charging for plastic bags from 11 Nov.

Also getting behind the green effort is BreadTalk.

According to a press release, they are launching a “One Less Bag” trial from 15 Nov. The trial aims to reduce plastic bag usage by at least 50%.

Bread packaged in newly-designed carrier

Once the trial commences on 15 Nov, breads will be packed in threes in a newly-designed food bag. This will allow them to do away with the current double-bagging system — one for the individual breads and an outer carrier to hold all the breads.

Nevertheless, to encourage customers to reduce wastage, they will be charging $0.10 for customers who still require a plastic bag on top of those new food carriers.

All proceeds collected will go to Community Chest.

Trial affects 5 BreadTalk outlets

For now, 5 BreadTalk outlets will be under this trial:

  • City Square Mall
  • Funan Mall
  • Jewel Changi Airport
  • Marina Bay Sands
  • Westgate

BreadTalk also mentioned that notices about the trial have been put up in these stores, warning those who are unaware.

The trial will be 3-months long, ending on 14 Feb 2020. So until then, if you’re planning on visiting any of these BreadTalk outlets, remember to bring your own bags — if not to save money, then to save our earth.
