Cyclist seen blocking bus with bicycle near Punggol traffic junction

During an apparent dispute with a bus driver, a cyclist was seen using his bicycle to block the bus.

A video of the incident was posted by a netizen named Roy Chiang in the Complaint Singapore Facebook group on 26 Nov.

Cyclist confronts bus driver before Punggol junction

According to the 8-second clip, a double-decker bus had stopped a few metres before a busy junction with Punggol Field.

Zooming in, it’s apparent the bus was service 85, which travels along Punggol East past the junction with Punggol Field.

Netizens slam cyclist for self-centred behaviour

In his caption, Mr Chiang pitied the bus driver, pointing out that the cyclist wasn’t even wearing a helmet.

Most of the comments on the post also slammed the cyclist for a bad attitude and uncivilised behaviour.

Others felt that he was being self-centred, considering that he was also causing a delay to the passengers on the bus.

Mr Chiang added that the video was taken at peak hour and the bus was also blocking vehicles behind it that may have wanted to turn.

Cyclist abruptly veered into path of bus in Punggol: Go-Ahead S’pore

Go-Ahead Singapore, which operates service 85, told STOMP in response to queries that it’s aware of the incident.

A Go-Ahead spokesperson said it occurred when the cyclist was cycling on the lane next to the bus and “abruptly veered” into its path, according to preliminary findings, adding:

This action compromised the safety of all parties – the cyclist, the bus captain, commuters on board the bus and other road users. Safety is our top priority and we take this incident very seriously.

The bus company is undertaking a “detailed internal investigation”, it stated.
