Gan Kim Yong joins over 1,000 devotees at Tou Mu Kung Temple’s Nine Emperor Gods send-off ceremony on 29 Oct
Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) Gan Kim Yong and several Members of Parliament (MPs) attended Tou Mu Kung Temple’s Nine Emperor Gods send-off on Wednesday (29 Oct), marking the end of the nine-day festival.
Other MPs present at the event included Minister Indranee Rajah, Acting Minister David Neo, and Ms Yeo Wan Ling.

Coordinating Ministers Ong Ye Kung and K Shanmugam were also spotted at similar events across the island.
Thousands gather to send off the Nine Emperor Gods
The event organised by Tou Mu Kung Temple was held at Punggol Coast and saw more than 1,000 devotees gather for the sending-off ceremony — a key highlight on the final night of the Nine Emperor Gods Festival.
According to Shin Min Daily News, the procession was led by 11 sports cars.

DPM and Minister for Trade and Industry Gan Kim Yong, who was recently elected as MP for Punggol GRC, arrived at the event at about 8.40pm.

He was accompanied by Taoist Federation President Tan Thiam Lye, greeting participants warmly before participating in the ceremony.
Other attendees included Minister Indranee Rajah, Acting Minister David Neo, as well as MPs Melvin Yong and Yeo Wan Ling.

Fireworks, performances & a flaming ritual vessel
The evening featured multicultural performances, including Malay and Indian drum troupes, symbolising Singapore’s racial harmony and diversity.
According to SMDN, there were also lion dances, traditional Teochew drumming, and stilt-walking performances that drew loud applause.

At about 10.15pm, fireworks lit up the sky as devotees prayed for blessings.

Mr Gan and the other guests then proceeded to the shoreline to send off the divine entourage, symbolised by a large ceremonial boat pushed out to sea and set alight — marking the end of the festivities.

Other ministers also attend separate send-offs
Over at Sembawang Beach, Coordinating Minister for National Security and Minister for Home Affairs Mr K Shanmugam personally lit a dragon boat during the send-off ritual at Sembawang Beach, organised by Kew Ong Yah Temple in Yishun.
According to SMDN, the event was attended by about 600 devotees.

Meanwhile, Coordinating Minister for Social Polices and Health Minister Ong Ye Kung joined the Leong Nan Temple ceremony, sharing on Instagram that he had gone directly from his “personal leave” to the event.
