National Day Sports Fiesta Features Interactive Games & Workshops For Families
National Day is just around the corner. You’ve taken your family to the floating platform, to Botanic Gardens, to the top floor of a 5-star hotel, to the gramp’s and the cousin’s, you even tried staying at home once — so where to this year?
If your family likes to be out and about, Singapore Sports Hub will be hosting its 3rd annual National Day Sports Fiesta on 9 Aug.
There, you’ll find carnival games, craft-workshops, dance workouts, fitness challenges and a dynamic “sports day” for the whole family.
Fitness challenges, carnival games & workshops
Time to sweat off those long hours of sitting in the office and, for the kids, those cups of after-school bubble tea.
Here are some highlights of the fiesta you can look forward to.
1. OHANA Games
OHANA Games will put families through 5 Singapore-themed game stations.
Some of the challenges include pulling a life-size rickshaw through obstacles in a replica of “old town Singapore” — yes, you can volunteer dad for the tedious pulling.
Not all are about brute strength. Those more agile and with good balance can prove themselves in the Samsui Dash challenge. There, they will attempt to carry baskets hung from shoulder poles and navigate a tricky slalom course.
The registration fee for the event is $5.40 per participant (3-5 per team). Sign up and you will receive a special OHANA Games T-shirt and tote bag.

2. RED-X Challenge
For those hankering a more physical challenge, the RED-X course will get your adrenaline pumping and push you to your limits. We’re talking about 6 stations of intense lifting, pulling, jumping and dashing on concrete and sand. The stations are:
- Pull ups
- Box jumps
- Battle ropes
- Slam ball tossing
- Shuttle run
- Sandbag lifting
In light of Singapore’s Bicentennial, participants will have to complete a total of 200 reps (across all stations) within the time limit in order to complete the challenge. Winners will take home a limited edition RED-X Games Dry Bag.
3. Aquathlon Introduction Clinic
Shaping your child up to become the next national athlete? Conducted by certified coaches from the Triathlon Association of Singapore, the clinic could well help your child shave a second or two off his usual lap time and develop your child’s confidence in racing on land as well as in water.
For fees, it’s $10 per participant, aged 7 to 12. Since this is a slightly more advanced clinic, participants should already be able to swim 50 metres continuously.

4. Craft Workshops
Anyone with an aptitude for craft can better their skills at the Craft Workshop. It comprises 4 different workshops — monogramming on cardholders, wax sealing, leather making and printing on pouches.
Essentially, you’ll get to create your very own National Day-themed memento.
The workshops are limited to 20 participants per session. Most sessions are already filled, but you or your child is really keen, you can always write to experiencesports@sportshub.com.sg and ask to be placed on the waiting list. Even if you don’t get a spot, you can always watch from the sides since the workshop is conducted open square.

5. Sports Hub Workout Lah!
For ladies, or guys, shake your hips, swing your arms and bounce to the rhythm of music in a Singapore-themed cardio dance session called Sports Hub Workout Lah! 20 minutes of kickboxing, 40 of mass dancing and the last 40 of zumba.
No sign-ups here, just make sure you’re early enough to ‘chope’ yourself a nice spacious spot on that open plaza.
Apart from the activities, there will also be a variety of carnival games as well as a bazaar to pick up some National Day souvenirs.
Lucky draw & SG54 promotional packages
Since it’s Singapore’s birthday, everyone will get to write a card for our country.
The cards will then be displayed on a massive birthday structure at OCBC Square, and 54 lucky participants will be picked to receive a free pair of tickets to future Singapore Sports Hub events.
You’ll also get to enjoy special rates on packages like a kayak orientation course and a stingray ride. Sign up and you’ll get to bring home your very own Sports Hub Otter plush toy.

Live telecast of NDP
Don’t worry about missing the National Day parade, because there will be a live telecast of the event on a giant TV screen at both the OCBC Square and the Waterfront.
Lay your picnic mat, bring out the baskets of food and enjoy the show with the whole family. If you position yourself right along the waterfront, you can even enjoy a clear view of the fireworks across the water.
Free picnic mats and Fiesta Bags – the contents are a surprise – can be collected when you complete a few fun tasks with the family. Find out more at the information booth.
Most importantly, remember to come in red and with a lively spirit.
