Newborn in India survives with 50 injuries after being thrown off bridge by parents

A newborn baby in India was discovered clinging to life in a tree on 26 August in Hamirpur, Uttar Pradesh, after reportedly being thrown off a bridge by his parents.

The seven-day-old infant, found entangled in branches, had sustained over 50 injuries, including a severe animal bite on his back.

According to NDTV, the infant was rushed to a district hospital in critical condition, where his chances of survival were uncertain.

However, after two months of intensive treatment, the baby made a full recovery.

During his hospital stay, the staff grew deeply attached to the infant, eventually naming him “Krishna” as he was found during the Janmashtami festival celebrations.

Transferred to police & child welfare committee upon discharge

On 24 October, Krishna was discharged and transferred to the police and the child welfare committee.

His departure was an emotional moment for hospital staff, who reportedly shed tears.

“When he was leaving the hospital, all the staff members had tears in their eyes because they felt very attached to him, almost as if he was their own child,” said Dr Sanjay Kala, principal of GSVM Medical College.

A nurse shared that due to his injuries, they could not hold Krishna to comfort him when he cried. Instead, they would sing lullabies to him from a distance or blow on his wounds to soothe his pain.

“His pain and crying would bring tears to our eyes, and some of us sing to him or gently blow on his wounds to make him feel better,” she said.

Expressing disbelief, Dr Kala questioned how his parents could resort to such an act.

He added that they could have left him safely at a hospital or a place of worship, so that he wouldn’t be hurt this way.

“We are delighted about his full recovery and wish him a wonderful life ahead,” said Lakshmi, a neonatal ICU nurse.
