SIA flight heading to Tokyo diverted to Taipei on 27 Oct due to cracked windshield
A Singapore Airlines (SIA) flight en route to Tokyo was diverted to Taipei on 27 Oct after its windshield developed a crack mid-flight.
Flight SQ636 left Changi Airport at 11.07pm on 27 Oct and was supposed to reach Tokyo’s Haneda Airport at 6.02am on 28 Oct, reports Channel NewsAsia.
According to an SIA spokesperson, the flight instead “landed uneventfully” at Taiwan’s Taoyuan International Airport at approximately 4am on 28 Oct due to a “cracked windshield”.
The Boeing 777-300ER was carrying 249 passengers and 17 crew members at the time of the incident.

Flight to Tokyo to resume on 28 Oct
SIA provided hotel accommodations for affected passengers where necessary.
Renumbered as SQ9876, the flight is set to depart Taipei for Tokyo at 8.30pm today (28 Oct). This amounts to a delay of about 18 hours.
“SIA sincerely apologises to all affected customers for the inconvenience caused,” the spokesperson said. They added:
“The safety of our customers and crew is always our top priority.”
