Woman jailed after chanted gang slogans on TikTok for attention & money

On Thursday (24 Oct), a woman was sentenced to nine weeks jail and a S$600 fine for posting TikTok videos of herself reciting gang chants in exchange virtual gifts.

According to The Straits Times, 22-year-old Nur Syafiqa Abdullah chanted gang slogans in at least four videos.

Recorded 4 videos in 3 months

The videos in question traced back to May 2023 — Nur’s first live streaming.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Thaddeus Tan told the court that Nur chanted a gang slogan while streaming from her flat in Sengkang.

Nur performed a similar act the following month during her second live streaming and received virtual gifts amounting to about S$83.

Encouraged by her past success and wanting to attract attention and earn money, Nur recorded a video of herself changing gang slogans outside an eatery in East Coast Park.
