Woman in China discovers she had been renovating wrong flat all along
A woman in Jiangsu province, China made headlines after she had mistakenly renovated the wrong flat for two years.
Instead of remodelling her unit on the sixth floor, she had been working on an eigth-floor home.
The woman, Dong (name transliterated from Chinese), explained that there were no door numbers on any of the units when she began renovating.
Additionally, the lift in the building was not operational, thus leading to her miscalculation.
When Ms Dong was manually counting the levels, she had failed to consider the two model units on the lower floors.
She also had no issue accessing the eighth floor unit as the key was left in its front door.
At Ms Dong’s instruction, workers proceeded with the renovation and the mix-up went unnoticed for two years.
8th-floor unit homeowner agrees to swap units
During this period, the owner of the eighth-floor unit had not visited the property.
They found out about the mistake through the property manager who had contacted them.
After negotiating with Ms Dong, the owner agreed to swap units, allowing her to take over the one she had already renovated.
“I’m so relieved they were nice about it,” she remarked, adding that the swap resolved the issue amicably.
