Tanjong Pagar Hawker Offers $0.90 Chicken Rice To Help S’poreans, Elderly Eat For Free

House Of Chicken Rice Sells Chicken Rice For $0.90/Plate

In times of crisis, we all need to band together and support each other, and one hawker stall in Tanjong Pagar is doing just that.

In a show of national support, House of Chicken Rice is selling their specialty – chicken rice – for a whopping $0.90. And to make things sweeter, customers above 55 get 1 packet of chicken rice free.

A Facebook post on Friday (3 Apr) by the owner revealed that this generous price is even lower than the cost price of a packet of chicken rice.

$0.90 chicken rice sold till 30 Apr

Speaking to MS News, Ms Khoo, the owner of the stall, said that chicken rice will cost just $0.90 per plate from next Monday (6 Apr) to 30 Apr.

However, if such “bad” conditions persist, she would extend the initiative and continue selling chicken at the much-discounted price.

When asked about what prompted her generosity, the owner shared that business had been kind to her for the past 13 years, and it was simply time for her to give back to the community.

Chicken rice store also benefited from landlord’s kindness

In her post, the owner also shared that she too was a recipient of kindness.

She gave a shoutout to her landlord, one Mr Tan, for waiving her rental for the next 2 months.

It is nice to see that some landlords are passing on property tax rebates to their tenants, as they should.

Thank you Ms Khoo!

Earlier today (3 Apr), the government announced that dining in at all F&B outlets will be prohibited from next Tuesday (7 Apr).

Therefore, customers who wish to enjoy Ms Khoo’s $0.90 chicken rice only have 1 day – 6 Apr – to do so.

That said, we’re sure it’ll taste good dabao-ed, given the kindness ‘sprinkled’ all over it.
