Students take graduation photos at pedestrian crossing in Malaysia amid traffic honking
A group of students were recently spotted taking their pre-convocation photos at a pedestrian crossing in a busy intersection in Malaysia, causing a stir on social media.
According to the viral TikTok video, the incident occurred at a road crossing in Bukit Bintang in the Kuala Lumpur City Centre.
The video, posted earlier this week, has garnered 1.9 million views as of writing.
Motorcyclists honk at students taking photos at crossing
The video shows five female students sitting in a line at the pedestrian crossing during a red light, while they were being photographed by a man holding a camera.
Several motorcyclists who witnessed the photoshoot were heard honking their horns, which the original poster (OP) claimed was to “liven up the atmosphere”.

After the quick photoshoot, the students and the photographer ran back to the sidewalk.
Notably, the motorcyclists stopped honking as soon as the group was off the road.
Students’ actions draw mixed reactions on social media
Some netizens believe the students’ decision to take photos at the pedestrian crossing was harmless, as the traffic light was red.

A few even cited that taking photos at pedestrian crossings during a red light is allowed in other countries.
However, others said their actions can still be dangerous even during a red light, with one user saying they could be hit by a driver under the influence.

Translation: It’s a red light, but the road is very clear, not everyone follows the rules, it doesn’t matter, thank God, if there’s a drunk driver nearby, it’s already a problem.

Following the viral video, the photographer commented, assuring the public that he had checked the road conditions before taking photos at the crossing.
“Everything is neatly arranged for each photo shoot,” he wrote.
He added, “I had studied the road there before, how long it would take for it to turn green. So I managed to take pictures in parts.”
He also asked netizens to let the students celebrate their pre-convocation in their own way, adding that students from other universities had taken similar photos at the crossing before they arrived.
