Young girl on bicycle rides onto busy Bukit Panjang Road, netizens question lack of supervision
Footage showing a young girl cycling across a busy road in Bukit Panjang by herself recently surfaced on social media.
The incident occurred at the intersection of Bukit Panjang Road and Pending Road, reportedly on Wednesday (6 Nov) evening.
The young girl, riding a small bicycle, attempted to cross Bukit Panjang Road by herself.
However, she was seemingly unaware that the pedestrian light was red at the time.
As she rode onto the busy road, a fast-moving car made its way across the pedestrian crossing, narrowly missing her.
The driver noticeably braked, as did the child on the bicycle.
An SMRT bus also came to a stop a few metres before the junction crossing.
Traffic on the second lane halted shortly afterwards when a black car noticed her and braked.
Meanwhile, the bus driver gestured at the girl with their arm, saying something inaudibly.
At this time, an older boy on a bigger bicycle rode over to the roadside. It is unclear if both are related.
The boy gestured for the girl to get back off the road, as did a passing uncle trying to cross Pending Road.
She listened, turned her bicycle around and returned to the pavement.
The two children then waited there as traffic resumed, with the bus driver gesturing at them again as the bus passed by.
Many netizens criticised the girl’s parents or guardians for the alleged lack of proper supervision.
One even said they should be charged.
