Singaporean Baker Susanne Ng Makes Kawaii Pikachu, Hello Kitty & Pusheen Chiffon Cakes
For almost 2 weeks now, stricter ‘Circuit Breaker’ measures have taken away our beloved cakes and desserts from us.
If you love sweet treats, you’ll be happy to know that local baker Susanne Ng makes kawaii Pikachu, Pusheen, and Hello Kitty chiffon cakes. They look so much like plush toys, they’ll easily put a smile on your face.
Ms Ng frequently hosts online baking classes too, so you can even consider upgrading your baking skills during ‘Circuit Breaker’.
Let’s take a look at her creations.
1. Hello Kitty chiffon cakes
Hello Kitty clad in a strawberry outfit sits at the front of a freshly baked cake. We’re betting that Sanrio fans are conflicted between eating this delicious concoction or preserving it for their collection.
2. Pusheen chiffon cakes
This heartwarming Pusheen cake is the perfect birthday cake for kids. Here’s to hoping that we can attend family gatherings and celebrate birthdays like usual soon.
3. Bubble tea chiffon cakes
The ‘Circuit Breaker’ proves that our obsession with bubble tea may never end. Since KOI’s outlets are closed at the moment, here’s a reminder of your favourite drink.
Surprisingly, this version is made with brown sugar and strong black tea, but it’s mixed with flour and egg yolk.
4. Pikachu
Those coping with these dark times by playing Pokémon on their Nintendo Switch will be happy to know that they can eat Pikachu cakes too.
5. My Neighbor Totoro
Hayao Miyazaki fans shouldn’t miss this confection inspired by My Neighbour Totoro. While we’re stuck in isolation at home, it may be the best time to watch beloved films from your childhood.
6. Pooh & Piglet
They say the sweetest moments are spent with loved ones. After this period ends, we hope that we can spend time with our BFFs like Pooh and Piglet, as seen in the cakes below.
7. Merlion
This Merlion cake sitting atop our national flag reminds us to stay at home so we can overcome this pandemic together. #SGUnited
8. Olaf
While we can never build a snowman in sunny Singapore, we can always make the chiffon version with the cheerful and optimistic Olaf.
9. Gudetama
These days some of us may be lazing around like Gudetama. Taking a cue from this lazy egg yolk may help us let go of things we can’t control during these uncertain times.
10. Tissue roll
To celebrate one of the most prized commodities during ‘Circuit Breaker’, Susanne created Toilet Roll Chiffon Cake. It even comes with a cheeky, winking face.
