Cyclists will be fined S$150 for violating group size rule: TP & LTA
The authorities have recently conducted more enforcement operations against cyclists.
The Traffic Police (TP) and Land Transport Authority (LTA), in a joint media release on Friday (18 Oct) that was sent to MS News, said they fined 37 of them.
They had been found riding in groups that were too large.

Cyclists fined over group size rules were caught over 2 operations
The enforcement operations were conducted by TP and LTA officers on 28 Sept and 13 Oct, they said.
The 37 cyclists caught were issued composition fines.
TP and LTA said cyclists who are caught flouting the group size rule would be fined S$150.
Fine amount was increased from 1 Jan 2022
The fine amount was increased from 1 Jan 2022 to improve road safety, TP and LTA said.
It also applies to those who break other existing cycling rules, including:
- failure to stop at red lights
- cycling on expressways
- riding abreast of another cyclist along single-lane roads or within bus lanes during bus lane operational hours
According to the Active Mobility Act (AMA), cyclists must keep to a maximum length of five devices when riding in groups.
That means a maximum of five cyclists in total if riding in single file, or 10 cyclists if riding two abreast — allowed only on roads with two or more lanes.
Police remind cyclists to abide by rules
During the enforcement operations, TP and LTA officers also engaged cyclists, in an effort to raise awareness on cycling rules and guidelines.

The police reminded cyclists to abide by the relevant rules and guidelines for their safety and the safety of others.
This includes obeying all traffic signals and travelling in the same direction as the flow of traffic, wearing helmets when on roads, riding as close as possible to the far-left edge of roads and allowing traffic to overtake safely.
Cyclists should also use bicycle lanes when available and not any other part of the roadway, the statement said, adding:
TP and LTA will continue to conduct enforcement operations against errant cyclists and will not hesitate to take action against them.
The most recent enforcement operations come after another two conducted on 28 July and 4 Aug, when 32 errant cyclists were fined and 77 active mobility users were nabbed.
