ICA to launch QR code clearance trials for bus travellers at S’pore land checkpoints

ICA QR code clearance trials for bus travellers to begin on 23 Nov at Tuas Checkpoint

The Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) has announced the commencement of QR code clearance trials for bus travellers at Singapore’s land checkpoints.

Since 19 March this year, ICA has been offering a QR code clearance option for car travellers through the MyICA app, streamlining immigration processes for faster and more efficient clearance.

Now, starting on Saturday (23 Nov), ICA will expand this convenience to bus travellers at Tuas Checkpoint, with Woodlands Checkpoint following from 28 Nov.

The trial will take place at selected automated lanes and Special Assistance Lanes (SALs) in the bus halls of both checkpoints.

The trial is open to Singapore Citizens, Singapore Permanent Residents (PRs), Long-Term Pass holders, and foreign travellers who have visited Singapore before.

QR code generated through MyICA app

To participate in the QR code clearance trial, bus travellers must first download the MyICA app and select ‘QR Code at Land Checkpoints’.

They can then generate either an individual or group QR code, selecting ‘bus’ as the vehicle type.

After generating the QR code, travellers can move to the trial lanes and scan the QR code at the passport scanning area.

Upon successful verification, the first set of flappers in the lane will open, allowing travellers to proceed.

A second set of flappers will open after verification of biometric data — either fingerprint or facial recognition — confirming the traveller has cleared immigration.

Trial lanes will be clearly marked with signages, and ICA officers will be available to assist where needed.

ICA encourages eligible travellers to participate in the trial to help refine the QR code clearance process for bus travellers.
