Pastor in Malaysia charged with murder of his mother
A 53-year-old freelance pastor, Deanesh Narayanan Nair, was charged on Tuesday (26 Nov) with the murder of his elderly mother, Catherine Daniel, 77.

The alleged crime occurred between 21 and 26 March 2021 at their home in Taman OUG, Kuala Lumpur.
Deanesh is accused of killing his mother and then storing her body in a freezer, where it remained for three years.
He faces a potential death sentence or up to 40 years in prison, in addition to at least 12 strokes of the cane if convicted.
Deanesh appeared in court in a wheelchair, having recently suffered a stroke.
Turned himself in after suffering a stroke
On 12 Nov, a man turned himself in to the police, confessing to killing his mother and keeping her body in a freezer for over three years.
Reports indicate that the suspect, having spent all his savings, feared that the freezer where he had stored his mother’s corpse would lose power and cause the body to decompose.
Additionally, after suffering a recent stroke, he believed his death was imminent.
He worried that the police would eventually catch up with him and he would be exposed for the crime before he passed away.
Upon receiving the report, police arrived at the scene, where they found the body inside a chest freezer and arrested the suspect.
A forensics team was called in to collect evidence, and the investigation began.
Pastor allegedly punched mother to death
It is believed that Deanesh fatally punched his mother following a dispute during the Covid-19 lockdowns in 2020.
After killing her, he wrapped her body in a towel and plastic sheets before storing it in the freezer to preserve it.
Deanesh later confessed to the murder, claiming he did so to “send her to heaven”, as revealed by Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Comm Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa.
