Hong Kong male group Grasshopper’s Remus Choy currently recovering from brain tumour surgery
Hong Kong singer Remus Choy (Cai Yijie), a member of the iconic pop trio Grasshopper, has shared that he recently underwent surgery to remove a brain tumour.
The 57-year-old took to Instagram on Sunday (20 Oct) to reassure fans of his safety, posting a selfie with a shaved head and showing a visible scar on the back of his head.
Missed San Francisco tour due to brain tumour
Choy, who had missed Grasshopper’s performances in San Francisco in September due to illness, clarified that his absence was because of a brain tumour.
According to Yahoo News, his condition was initially attributed to immune system problems. However, Choy’s latest post revealed that he had recently undergone successful surgery.
“Just had a brain tumour removal surgery, the surgery went very smoothly,” he shared in his heartfelt post.
He expressed gratitude for his family’s unwavering support and thanked his fellow band members for continuing the performances while he was in treatment.
“I would like to thank my family for their support and encouragement by my side and thank you to my two brothers for their hard-working performance in the United States during my surgery.”

‘Life will be more exciting in the future’
Choy, 57, is part of the massively popular band that’s been around since 1985. It’s known for songs such as 愛不怕 (Love is Not Afraid) and 寶貝對不起 (Baby I’m Sorry).
In the photo shared with fans, Choy showed the U-shaped suture marks from his operation.
Despite the serious procedure, he appeared upbeat, sharing that he was in good spirits and hoped to recover fully with time.
“I believe my life will be more exciting in the future,” he added, asking for patience as he focuses on his healing.
Fans and fellow artistes, including Taiwanese singer-host Matilda Tao and Hong Kong singer Joey Yung, flooded social media with messages of encouragement.
“Looking forward to seeing you shine on stage again. Wishing you a speedy recovery. Love you,” said Yung.
Chinese singer-songwriter Hins Cheung said: “Stay beautiful and fit. Recover soon.”
Netizens were moved by the sight of Choy’s post-surgery scar, with many expressing their well-wishes and support for his recovery.
