Police warn public of scammers impersonating food delivery apps, over S$42K lost since Aug

Scammers targeting food and beverage businesses in Singapore

The Singapore Police Force (SPF) issued an advisory on 18 Nov warning the public of scammers impersonating food delivery applications, saying that at least S$42,000 had been lost so far since Aug 2025.

According to the SPF, the scammers primarily target food and beverage (F&B) businesses, and at least four cases have been reported.

Scammers impersonate food delivery platforms

This latest scam variant had the victims, the F&B restaurants, receive calls from the scammers.

Posing as representatives from food delivery platforms, the scammers would claim there were upgrades or connection issues with their sales terminals.

They would then ask victims to verify their identities by asking for personal information such as:

  • Email addresses
  • Phone numbers
  • Passwords for platforms
  • OTPs

One victim was even asked to provide a photo of his NRIC via WhatsApp.

Stolen data used to access victims’ accounts

Using this stolen data, the scammers would access the businesses’ accounts on the apps.

They could also access the victims’ email accounts to update bank account details, add fake email accounts, and change notification settings.

With all of these changes, the businesses’ earnings could then be sent to the scammers’ own bank accounts or payment service provider accounts.

Victims usually only discovered the changes after checking the platforms manually.

The SPF warns against sending personal details to unknown people.

It also recommends adding the ScamShield app to block and filter SMSes.

Businesses should also check with the food delivery apps using the official contact numbers about alleged point-of-sale terminal upgrades.
