11 Cars Stuck In Chain Collision On S’pore Expressway
Nobody enjoys taking the train during peak hours, but some people found themselves in a totally different kind yesterday (8 Jan).
A rare 11-car chain formed on a busy expressway right here in Singapore, as seen in this viral video shared on All Singapore Stuff‘s Facebook page.
Drivers, passengers and curious onlookers gawked at the sight, which almost reminds us of the opening scene of “La La Land”.
Except this time, nobody seemed to be happily dancing or breaking into song.
Chain accident occupy first lane of S’pore expressway
Judging from the relatively smooth traffic flow in the other lanes and the sunniness, the incident may have occurred around mid-day.
The exact location is difficult to ascertain, although several netizens suggest it could be on the Central Expressway (CTE).
The Land Transport Authority’s (LTA) Traffic News on Twitter, however, didn’t mention any accidents on the CTE yesterday.
Accidents only occurred in lane 1 on the following expressways throughout the day, so you can watch the video again and decide:
- ECP
- PIE
- AYE
- SLE
We’re not sure how the accident started, but someone in the ‘queue’ likely has a lot of explaining to do.
Since the first lane is often for faster cars that are overtaking, our best guess is that the vehicle ‘first in line’ may have jammed the brakes too abruptly.
Naturally, the rest who were travelling just as fast wouldn’t be able to stop in time, hence causing the collision.
No apparently serious damage
Another possibility is that the cars were tailgating, in which case a sudden stop may also result in a collision.
If that was so, we’re glad that the accident seemed minor, as we spot no visibly serious damage to the cars involved.
The drivers and passengers milling about the area also appeared to be fine, which leads us to believe that everyone was unharmed.
Remember to observe road safety rules
Fortunately for these people, the accident was a minor disruption to their day.
The consequence could be more dire under different circumstances, so remember to observe road safety rules whenever you drive.
