Singaporean arrested in Malaysia was charged with drug trafficking in 2014 but fled in 2017

After seven years on the run, a 37-year-old Singaporean man has been arrested in Malaysia.

In a news release on Monday (21 Oct), the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) said he was wanted in connection with several drug trafficking and other drug-related offences committed between 2014 and 2024.

He was also wanted by the police to assist in investigations regarding two cases of voluntarily causing grievous hurt and cheating by impersonation.

The man was arrested and charged in court more than 10 years ago on 3 April 2014, CNB said.

He faced three counts of drug trafficking and one count of drug consumption and was released on bail.

However, he failed to return to court on 12 June 2017.

An arrest warrant was subsequently issued against him.

CNB thanks M’sian authorities

The Acting CNB Director, Senior Assistant Commissioner Leon Chan, has expressed his appreciation to the Malaysian authorities for their strong support in assisting CNB.

The close cooperation between CNB and NCID/RMP and the man’s arrest is a “testament to the strong working relationship” between the two agencies, he said, adding:

Drug traffickers thinking to evade our law by hiding overseas will find that there is no safe haven.

He also thanked his Malaysian counterparts for their cooperation in bringing the suspect back to Singapore to face the law.
