Toa Payoh Auntie’s Husband Claims They Have Been Doing So For 40 Years
With Chinese New Year (CNY) just around the corner, some families have already begun spring cleaning their homes.
One elderly lady staying in Toa Payoh, however, took spring cleaning to another level — 18 to be exact.
On Saturday (4 Jan), residents staying at a block along Toa Payoh Lorong 8 were shooketh when they saw an auntie cleaning her windows while standing on a narrow ledge outside her flat on the 18th floor.
Area can be quite windy
According to Lianhe Zaobao, a resident by the name of Mr Liu apparently saw the shocking scene on Saturday (4 Jan) evening at around 6pm.
The 41-year-old was understandably worried when he saw the acts unfold in person, saying that:
This is very dangerous and is quite an unwise behaviour. She could have lost her life if she wasn’t careful.
To make things worse, the area can apparently be quite windy, which may cause the old lady to fall over.
Hence, Mr Liu hopes the auntie’s family members can advise them against doing so in the future.
Couple claims they have been climbing onto the ledge for 40 years
Based on the photos, the incident seemed to have taken place at Block 213 along Toa Payoh Lorong 8.
When Lianhe Zaobao reporters visited the unit, a 73-year-old man named Mr Zheng answered the door and confirmed that the lady on the ledge was his wife.
He later told the Chinese publication that his family has been climbing onto the ledge to clean their windows every year for the last 40 years.
Mr Zheng would usually execute the task, but as his leg was hurting last Saturday, his wife decided to help out instead.
Mr Zheng assured that they took “safety precautions” that day,
We are mindful of our safety. We saw that it wasn’t raining that day, and decided to quickly climb out to mop the windows. The cleaning only took half an hour.
Apparently, Mr Zheng and his wife aren’t the only ones who climb onto the ledge.
According to the 73-year-old, his neighbour would also use the narrow extension to climb into his own house when he forgets his key.
Bizarre, we know.
Hope the elderly Toa Payoh couple will be more careful
We hope the elderly couple will heed the advice of their neighbours and stop the dangerous act of climbing onto the ledge, because a fall from such a height can potentially be fatal.
While spring cleaning is important, our lives should definitely be treasured more.
