Tom’s Palette suspended for 2 weeks till 28 Oct

On Tuesday (15 Oct), The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) announced that Tom’s Palette’s outlet in Bugis has been suspended for two weeks.

The shop had accumulated 12 demerit points within a 12-month period and was ordered to cease operation from 15 Oct to 28 Oct. The licensee was also handed a S$800 fine.

Spokesperson apologies for shop’s suspension

Following the incident, a spokesperson from Tom’s Palette posted a video on its Instagram account apologising to customers.

In the video, the spokesperson explained that SFA investigated the shop in May and found that its Pistachio flavoured gelato was contaminated with bacteria.

The shop accumulated six demerit points as a result.

After the incident, the representative said the shop took steps to ensure customers’ safety. This included changing its cooking methodology and obtaining lab reports from its suppliers.

She explained that the other six demerit points came about as SFA found a part-timer rolling ice cream cones without a food handler’s license.

The spokesperson conceded this was entirely their fault.

Following the incident, the shop changed its hiring practices by employing those with an existing certification.

Staff members who are not certified will be assigned “non-food handler duties” such as dishwashing and cashiering.

Ending the video, she assured customers that all employees have had their certificates renewed.
