Amos Yee may be staying at halfway house after being released from US jail
Singaporean Amos Yee, who has been in and out of jail for the last decade, has been released from jail in the United States after he was supposed to be released earlier this month.
However, he had to stay in jail for an extra 13 days as the prison could not find him a place to stay, said a post on his blog.

Amos Yee released from jail on parole on 20 Nov
According to records from Victim Information and Notification Everyday (VINE), a service that lets victims know the custody status of offenders, the 27-year-old was released from custody on Thursday (20 Nov).
The reason for his release was parole.

Latest information from the Illinois Department of Corrections states that he was last paroled on 7 Nov, but readmitted to Danville Correctional Center on the same day, then finally paroled again on 20 Nov.

Amos Yee had nowhere to stay after being released from jail
The latest post on his blog, which is maintained by supporters, explained the reason for Yee’s readmission to jail on 7 Nov.
Dated sometime in November, the post said he did not have a suitable place to stay, so the prison had to find him a halfway house.
But they did not manage to do so before 7 Nov, so he had to stay longer in prison till they found him a place to stay.

As a registered sex offender, he cannot stay anywhere near children, nor can he be homeless, or he will be sent back to prison again.
Now that he has been released, it’s possible that a halfway house has been found for him.
Amos Yee previously paroled in Oct 2023 but sent back to jail
This is not the first time Yee has been released on parole.
He was released on parole on 6 Oct 2023, but was sent back to jail just one month later after he made a blog post, violating the rules for a sex offender on parole.
In a blog post on 25 Jan 2024, he claimed that during his one month on parole, he broke the rules by spending five to 10 hours daily on the Internet.
Yee was sentenced to a total of six years in prison, backdated to his arrest in 2020, for child pornography and grooming.
That meant if he had served his full sentence, he was supposed to be released in October 2026.
Amos Yee might be deported to S’pore if asylum is revoked
Though he has been released, Yee’s troubles are not over.
A blog post last month claimed that although he was in the US on asylum, the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) intended to bring him back to court to revoke his asylum.
He needed recommendations for an immigration lawyer to help him on a pro bono basis (without charge), as he is unsure what would happen after his release.

If his asylum status is terminated, it might see him being deported back to Singapore.
